We are thrilled to announce that MOBILISE will host a one-hour side session on Day 1 of ESCAIDE 2024, taking place on November 20th from 15:45-16:45. Moderated by our project coordinator, Dr. Florian Gehre from BNITM, the session will focus on the vital role of mobile laboratories in addressing global diagnostic challenges during disasters, crises, and disease outbreaks.
The session will showcase four key initiatives operating in diverse climates and continents:
- Europe’s MOBILISE lab as a sustainable One Health solution.
- Canada’s mobile lab, specialized for extreme climate conditions.
- East Africa’s modular labs, designed for cross-border epidemics.
- MSF’s outbreak lab, tailored for rapid deployment in disaster and crisis situations.
In addition to discussing the labs’ national integration and future directions, this session will provide valuable insights into their role in the evolving field of mobile diagnostics.
An exciting line-up of speakers:
- Dr. Muna Affara, a molecular biologist with extensive experience in infectious diseases and public health in Africa.
- Kym Antonation, MPH, Chief of the Bioforensic Assay Development and Diagnostics (BADD) section at the National Microbiology Laboratory, Public Health Agency of Canada.
- Laurence Flevaud, a biologist who has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) since the late 90s, serving as a laboratory manager and diagnostic advisor.
